The Return Comes From an Operating System

A website can produce advertising, subscription, lead, software, product, or service revenue. That does not make the income passive. The buyer inherits traffic sources, code, content, vendor relationships, customer expectations, and maintenance.

The purchase price is only one number. Transition work, technical debt, content upkeep, payment risk, and the cost of replacing the seller's labor belong in the return calculation.

What to Verify

  • Revenue by source, account, customer concentration, and refund behavior.
  • Traffic by channel, landing page, geography, and dependence on a small number of rankings.
  • Ownership of the domain, code, content, data, trademarks, and third-party licenses.
  • Hosting, security, backups, software dependencies, and known technical debt.
  • The seller's weekly work and the skills required to replace it.

A Score Is the Beginning of Due Diligence

A score can make comparisons consistent. It cannot verify a bank statement, prove traffic quality, transfer a software license, or predict a search update. Use scoring to expose the questions that deserve evidence.
